Lord Shani is active in the period of his Mahadasha, Antardasha, Sadhe - Sati and Dhaiya . In these periods, he judges our gathered-karmas and consequently produce gratifications or mourns and greaves.

He is able to grant wealth, good health, property and kingly luxuries and comforts.

And on a contrary, he is able to cause a king becoming poorest of the man.

But whatever he does, does to purify our existence so that we could perform appropriate karmas in the future. We can say that whatever greaves or gratifications come in the period of activeness of Shani, the reason is clear. And the soul reason is our welfare ( Kalyana).

The purification of our sins and rewards, which are basically the resultants of our own good or bad karmas of past and readying us as a pure soul for future traits is the main motive of Lord Shani. And only a pure soul can do such philanthropic act, who is capable of looking every being with equal sight without any sort of discrimination.

And that's the reason that nature's disciplinary system has authorised and designated Shani as a Magistrate who could give it a wallop with his staff.

Saturn's Significance among all planets:

As per Indian Vedic astrology, there are 12 planets, 12 astro-signs, 27 constellations (Nakshatras) and 108 Navamsa . And all these cosmic units have their own domain to work.. But what kind of result will a planet produce in particular Navamsa of a particular Nakshatra in a particular astro-sign in a particular period, falls under the jurisdiction of Lord Shani.

Shani evaluates astrological aspects of the moment and directs the planets to produce specific result. And to my opinion only a pure energy is capable of performing such a responsible job, who has all the knowledge of Karmas .

And to successfully accomplish Such an act of Paramount, the Nature' s disciplinary system has provided him two assistants who are invisible yet oldest energies of the universe called Rahu and Ketu.

Ketu being the oldest of the Planets, remains alive even at the time of cataclysm of the universe. He stores every Karma being performed by us and Rahu stores all the information of our future.

In general there can't be a comparison of any Planet with other planets or cosmic units, because every unit has its own working domains. Still in my opinion, Shani is an incomparable energy that lights our path to a proper and appropriate destination (objective).

Like Shiva, from exterior maybe dreadful but basically he is the state of Supreme ecstasy and as simple as a baby, Shani in the same way, from exterior may look to be a havocking, but at the innermost level he is the 'Super-Favouring-Purest' of the souls.
