There have been so many wrong notions in our society. Being Male-dominant, almost every religion and society has exploited women since foretime. Hindu society also has discriminated against females. Sati rite was one such example of exploitation. I at least praise to the British government who restricted the practice of Sati before independence?
It was the result of the tireless efforts of Rajaram Mohan Rai, that in 1829, the governor of Bengal declared the Sati rite illegal in Bengal. The Nepal government prevented rites of Sati from its territory in the 1920. And in 1988, under Sati Prevention Act of Indian Government, the rites of Sati was kept in the category of crime. Then only the Indian woman got rid of tartarean life.
There is one more act of superstition which has been spreaded badly in our society. And that is, "Menstruation of Women", which has been shaped by a male-dominated society as a Curse. This curse spread among us like an incurable disease and has made the woman a contaminated being. Menstruation in India is known as ‘MasikDharm' or 'Rajswala'.
Manusmriti 'is a Hindu scripture in which women have been declared unholy during menstrual period. In this period, the woman has been denied worship and prayer. Women are not allowed to enter the temple during the days of menstruation. And in some places she can not make food in her house, and at some places she is forced to live a lonely and dernful life away from the entire village and society.
Some great scholars and intellectuals have justified these practices. According to them, this was done so that women could relax more in the days of menstruation. If seen from one sight it may seem reasonable. And in general it may be appropriate for the initial two days of such menstrual period when the power depreciation is high. But if a woman is not a victim of malnutrition and if she does not have diseases like hypothyroidism, hypertenstion etc., then even after the first day she does not experience the decline of power. At the same time some balanced and healthy women do not experience any weakness at all.
And if seen in today's context, many painkiller medicines are available today that can stimulate the pain, then where remains the palce for these orthodox practices. But unfortunately the illicit rite is in practice.
This is the Hindu religion, which has beautified the woman as the goddess of power in the scriptures, in the temples and in its worship. How can this religion cherish these types of prejudices, which thus abuses and maltreat women in indescribable manners.
Whether we believe it or not, there has to be some basis for this illicit rite. Four thousand to five thousand years ago, in the 'Vedic period', the honour that the woman received has now remained as a sham wrapped in the lap of superstitions . For the mere outward show offs in the men's society, the woman is treated as a piece of honour. Only to nurture superstitions, the goddess form of woman is decorated in temples by giving shape of the idols. But the story is completely contrarious on the real surface.
At present, most men do not take women as a motherly face. Most men in today's world, instead of seeing a mother or daughter in every woman, see them as a mean to enjoy for physical satisfaction.
There are two words in Sanskrit, language, ‘Ashudh' and ‘Ashubh'. ‘Ashudh' means unclean or the one who is not cleaned properly. ‘Ashubh' means inauspicious.
