When Shani was still in the womb of Devi Chhaya, she dedicated all her time worshipping Lord Shiva. Her devotion was so soulful that she failed to properly take care of her health and this had a direct impact on her new born, who was very dark & grossly frail and weak.

Seeing his son, who was very much unlike his father's self-radiant and strength, Lord Surya refused to accept him as his son. Going further, Lord Surya abandoned both his son and his wife. Both mother and the son faced humiliation and suffered great pain.

As the time passed by, Lord Shani decided to revenge the embarrassment and disgrace that his father granted them. And as a quest, he started performing strict penance to please Lord Shiva. And as a result Lord Shiva granted him boon and he was able to earn power and sight equivalent to his father.

Not only that, he also earned the authority to serve punishments and awards as the consequences of the Karmas . Lord Shiva designated him as the 'Magistrate'.
